Boise-born and Boston-based, Jewell has quickly distinguished herself as one of the rising stars of a new generation of roots musicians. Her albums are astonishingly assured efforts, which match Jewells understated yet insightful songs with a rugged blend of Americana styles. Jul 9th - The Coal Men. The Coal Mens music is rich, full of melody and hooks, and incredibly entertaining. Songs that tell stories, that convey pain, love, longing, hope and hopelessness. Behind those lyrics, music that is lush and beautiful. Jul 16th - Athens Jazztet. From Bop to Cool to Latin, a Jazztet performance evokes the classic two-horn quintets of Miles Davis and Horace Silver while embracing the most durable, standard tunes in the jazz canon alongside more contemporary works by composers such as Wynton Marsalis and Pat Metheny. Jul 23rd - Albert The Kid Castiglia. Given the nickname The Kid by his late boss, Chicago Blues Legend, Junior Wells, Castiglia is a blistering Blues guitarist who proves a worthy band leader himself. Gritty vocals and scorching slide guitar punctuate his critically acclaimed performances. In 2009, Castigila's original tune, Bad Year Blues, was nominated for Song of the Year by the Blues Foundation. Aug 6th - Bryan Lee. Known as the Braille Blues Daddy and heralded as a New Orleans Institution, Lee was once told by Muddy Waters, Bryan, stay with this. One day you're going to be a living legend. Now, more than a quarter-century later, Bryan Lee is one of the most recognizable blues players to call New Orleans home. Aug 13th - Davina the Vagabonds. Davina and the Vagabonds are known in The Twin Cities, Minnesota as being the busiest band in town because of their hard working professionalism, high energy stage performance, and original sound.
