THIS SHOW TAKES PLACE AT ARTS/WEST in ATHENS, OHIOStuart's Opera House in conjunction with ARTS/West in Athens presents an amazing evening of music with Barbez from New York City Barbez are unclassifiable icons of the downtown New York scene weaving a haunting mosaic of old-world cabaret, Eastern European folksong, contemporary classical and experimental rock into a uniquely beautiful and personal soundscape. They've worked with artists such as John Zorn, David Byrne, and countless others. With their unconventional lineup mixing a rock rhythm section and theremin, clarinet, and classical percussion, one can hear echoes of such like-minded musical iconoclasts as Kurt Weill, Godspeed, you black emperor and Russian composer Alfred Schnittke. Over the years Barbez has been privileged to perform with a wide variety of artists including Cat Power, Sun Ra Arkestra, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, MC5, Devendra Banhart, the Dresden Dolls, Faun Fables, and the Angels of Light.
